Seth Thomas Adamantine Clock
A model No. 102 manufactured in 1898. Adamantine is a celluloid material which was veneered onto the wood case of the clock. It was patented No. 232,037 by the Celluloid Manufacturing Co. of New York City dated Sept. 7, 1880 and was licensed by Seth Thomas for its use in manufacturing their clocks in 1881.
Ebony and coppery tan faux marble veneer case with glass door covered elaborate brass face featuring arabic numerals and spade hands flanked by decorative copper columns. Additional detail of copper lion’s head rings to side of case and paw feet on the base. Incised art on the adamantine finish is in great condition and completes the look.
